Berekum CoE Commences An Internship Programme With Selected Vocational Schools in MÜNSTER and Surrounding Towns in Germany

As part of the efforts to keep the name of the College on the international front, Management has welcomed a ten (10) member team from selected vocational schools in MÜNSTER-GERMANY and it's surrounding towns for an internship programme from June 6 - 25, 2023. The programme gives interested students from vocational institutions in Germany the opportunity to visit Berekum- Ghana for inter-cultural activities and internships in vocational shops in the College and the Berekum township. Thus, the students would spend time in the College for social purposes and academic experiences, and in selected vocational shops for practical learning engagements in their field of study. The aim of the project is for management of the College to create a subsidiary collaboration with institutions in Germany and in Ghana, for the purpose of future sponsorships for the benefit of international partnership activities in the College and the collaborating institutions involved.

The project is being coordinated by Ms. Jutta Fiehe of Hans-Böckler-Berufskolleg as the Lead Agent in Germany and Mr. Andrews Ohene Darteh as the Lead Agent in Ghana with sponsorship from the German government. Mr. Martin Hammerhofer who is a coordinator for partnerships at Hans-Böckler-Berufskolleg is a consultant to the project. The intention of the initiators of the project is to extend the frontiers of the partnership between Berekum College of Education and Hans-Böckler-Berufskolleg.

By way operationalising this internship programme, a ten (10) member team from Berufsschule Melle and Wilhelm-Emmanuel-von-Ketteler Berufskolleg (Ben Frisse, Kolja Wiedau, Hannes Moorkamp, Gunnar Schröder, Jannes Kuhlmann, Julius Klüter, Jasper Max Hieronimi, Finn Felix Raseck, Julius Rüdiger Schmieder Julia Feldkamp- a teacher) would be visting Ghana from June 4-25, 2023 for the first internship project in coffin making. Following, another four (4) participants from Hans-Böckler-Berufskolleg, Münster-Germany would be visiting from June 19-July 7, 2023, but for a community field project, where students from selected Basic Schools would be involved. Under this project, the College plays the role of a host institution. Thus, participants of the programme would basically be staying on the College campus and be involved in social activities and the day-to-day campus life with students of the College. Students of the College, who were members of the Hans-Böckler-Berufskolleg- Berekum College of Education Virtual Exchange Programme would lead a community integration process for the participants.

The programme is to help enhance College's communinity engagement efforts through diversify industry-academic relationships both at the local, national and international levels, which has the potential of bring about research and project partnerships between the College, business organisations and non-governmental organisations. It is expected that, the College community benefits from the continuous collaborations with schools in Germany for the purpose of benefiting from the advantages of international collaborations.

Also, the project engenders a networking event which is important for students‘ and staff career prospects in teaching and beyond. In line with this, artisans in the College and in the Berekum Municipality who would be engaged shall benefit from the practical skills of the participants in the form of collaborative learning on the job.

The active support and participation of staff and students in the activities of this international partnership project in the College and in the Berekum municipality is anticipated for the purpose of the long-term benefit of partnership on the College and the stakeholders involved.
